Bending Guide

Using This Guide
Bending Guides show specific bends that we have identified as interesting. Color-coded circles indicate separate bending points that all connect to a common point. We call this the Point of Origin (or POO) and indicate the POO with a circle marked with an “X”.
Occasionally a circle will be marked with a zigzag line . This means that we found it useful to add a potentiometer between this point and the POO.

Tips and Tricks
Bending with surface-mount devices (SMD) can present some challenges. Since these tiny components are mounted directly to the board, without through-hole leads, there’s very little area to attach bending leads. So, here’s a little trick we’ve picked up to help with the process.

This is the resistor for the Blue 2 bending point. On the bottom half of the resistor, we’ve added a little blob of extra solder.

Be sure to tin the end of the lead in advance. Then lay it down, as flat as possible, across your solder blob, at an angle and quickly melt the blob until the lead gets a good joint.
Because it’s a resistor, there’s less chance of heat-related damage, but if you’re trying this trick on a component that is more sensitive to heat, be sure you’re quick and surgical with the maneuver.
This will help ensure you’ve a good connection, but it’s still not terribly strong. We recommend hot gluing the joint for additional strain relief and durability. (We recommend this in general, for all bends, but especially for SMD bends.)
Updated for 2025
Built from: Behringer UT100 Ultra Tremolo
Number of bends: 7 14
Description: Sometimes a melodramatic name is melodrama for the sake of melodrama. Sometimes it’s spot on, in all of its melodrama. Violent Insurrection is an example of the latter.
**New!**
In all honesty… We’re not sure why this was originally called “Violent Insurrection”. There was a description that was salvaged from the old BentPedals.com site, but it doesn’t really seem to fit what we’ve uncovered in the updated bending guide.
And let’s be fair. That was a melodramatic name.
What we did find this time around is exactly double the number of useful bends from the original bending guide. Some of the original bends didn’t make the cut this time around, but we think we’ve more than made up for those with the new additions.
That said, most of these bends are relatively subtle. Slight changes in timing or the shape of the tremolo LFO, or some overdrive, or a bit of gating on the signal. And one really cool bend that pushes the LFO into audio ranges for FM-like effects. Nothing earth-shattering, but also not a bad haul for an SMD board.
